Cherokees pull freed slaves' memberships

(Even the Indians forsake Black folks!) By MURRAY EVANS, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 31 minutes ago OKLAHOMA CITY - Cherokee Nation members voted Saturday to revoke the tribal citizenship of an estimated 2,800 descendants of the people the Cherokee once owned as slaves. With all 32 precincts reporting, 76.6 percent had voted in favor of an amendment to the tribal constitution that would limit citizenship to descendants of "by blood" tribe members as listed on the federal Dawes Commission's rolls from more than 100 years ago. The commission, set up by a Congress bent on breaking up Indians' collective lands and parceling them out to tribal citizens, drew up two rolls, one listing Cherokees by blood and the other listing freedmen, a roll of blacks regardless of whether they had Indian blood. Some opponents of the ballot question argued that attempts to remove freedmen from the tribe were motivated by racism. "I'm very disappointed that people bought into a lot of rhetoric and falsehoods by tribal leaders," said Marilyn Vann, president of the Oklahoma City-based Descendants of Freedmen of Five Civilized Tribes.

Voting in Chicago Stinks

Dorothy Brown was a spoiler. She didn’t run to win. She was Daley’s best political tool and ally. I wonder what that deal includes. Rev. Jesse Jackson should have stayed as mute on the subject 2/26/07 (the day before the election) as he was when Dorothy Brown announced her candidacy. She had “nerves of Steele”. What do you think she thought Walls was supposed to do? Come to her house and say, “Well, yessim, I’ll drop out the race cause you in!” Why couldn’t she support him? Why couldn’t Rev. Jesse Jackson and every So-called representative of black people in Chicago get together and decide on 1 candidate? Why such a low voter turn out? Why, Why, Why, because the interest of black people is not paramount to black leadership. White folks vote “White” all the time and they’re just voting. We don’t vote black because black people don’t want anybody saying, "they’re playing the race card!” White people and the rest of the races don’t respect black people because they don’t stick together, they don’t support each other, the black politicians don’t represent black people and black people just don’t respect each other. Black politicians in Chicago cry, "vote for a change!" When they get elected they join the good old boy network. Black people in Chicago don't vote because it barely servers a purpose. Voting in Chicago is a facade and the political machine spins tales and blows smoke everyday, all day. Look at Lil Stroger and Iron lady Steel or is that Stole. Voting in Chicago sure has a funny smell.
